Omron products are selected and used in many industries and applications because they improve your products, capabilities, quality and time-to-market.
Using conventional detecting products may not be possible in some cases due to the shape of the detecting surface, which is sometimes too unstable. Detection using photoelectric sensors is not possible because of reduced reflection. Proximity sensors are difficult to use because of the distance involved in the application.
The front or back of bearings can be distinguished by measuring the differences between the area of front and back. The key to this solution is to capture the detecting area by plane, which makes detection stable.
Vision sensors can be utilized to improve the accuracy of front/back distinction resulting in higher quality of the assembled product.
A customer wanted a placement system that could accurately position engine valves during a grinding and finishing stage in their manufacturing process. The valves are first placed against a support for the initial grinding, then repositioned and supported for the finish dressing with a diamond wheel. This finishing rectification may be required on various parts of the valve body.
The solution offered was controlled with an Omron PLC. The input devices (Sensors) and the output devices (pneumatic, hydraulic and electric actuators) are controlled by boards mounted on the backplane and by boards connected by a sensor bus. The PLC-based motion controllers control the simple and the interpolated placements of the wrecker for the grindstone, the tower for pliers and the support for the diamond wheel. The patterns are calculated by a PC with dedicated software.
This solution integrates well into the basic functions of the numerical control of the PLC that controls the sensors, the actuators, and the dialog with a PC used to set the quotation/monitoring. Furthermore the remote solution reduces the cabling work.
